Reading and Writing in Alternative Populations
Welcome Address
We are pleased to invite you to the first meeting on Reading and Writing in Alternative Populations, to be held in The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), Hong Kong SAR, China on 16th and 17th June, 2023. This small and focused meeting, co-organised by the Faculty of Education and Human Development and Department of Psychology, EdUHK, and the School of Psychology, University of Sussex, aims to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas concerning how the uniquely human activities of reading and writing are accomplished by different people under different situations and constraints. We are interested in both the commonalities and variations among these “typical” versus “alternative” cases in terms of how reading and writing are manifested and what underlying mechanisms are possibly involved, which are all important considerations toward the construction of a general theory of reading and writing. The first Reading and Writing in Alternative Populations features four keynote addresses, 3 symposia, 1 interactive session, and 14 individual oral presentations under five themes: (1) reading and writing in relation to cognitive-linguistic factors; (2) reading and writing in relation to social-emotional factors; (3) reading and writing in special populations; (4) reading and writing in the digital age; (5) reading and writing in an educational context. Since the meeting is likely to attract researchers from different fields, ample cross-disciplinary networking opportunities are expected. What is more, this meeting is free of registration charges.
So join us in this event for exploring more about reading and writing. We look forward to meeting with you in Hong Kong.
Best Wishes,
Organising Committee
